Just updated my xorg to version 1.6.3 (available in Debian/sid) with the
current intel driver 2.8.0. It works there fine.
I recommend as a workaround for everyone running in this kind of
problems to upgrade, if you can live with packages from the testing world.

Already re-installed everything with dri and mesa in the package name.
glxinfo says I'm using the DRI.

another final note. The glxgears corruption comes from a bug in the
tiling code of the intel driver. Add the following line to your video
card section in xorg.conf and it works ok:
Option "Tiling""false"
