n graphical login screen. Login as
your user, become root, stop gdm (/etc/init.d/gdm stop) e try
reconfiguring X (dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg). Restart gdm
(/etc/init.d/gdm start). This will, probably, resolve your problem.
It should be of help for us if you can send the content
of /var/log/in
