Hi,
I haven't submitted the bug upstream myself -- someone else
beat me to it; but I did send them the suggested fix.
The fix is not a new variant -- what I wanted to achieve with the

Hi,
xkeyboard-config 2.11, released last week, includes an implementation of the

I like to use alt+caps-lock to switch between keyboard layouts.
For this, I use a modified symbols/group file which declares
a partial map called alt_caps_toggle. To complement it, I
added in /etc/X11/xkb/rules/xfree86 a definition for

Further, there is no need for two X servers to be running -- one is enough,
provided that it is made not active. That is, to reproduce:

Hi,
As you may see in the attached log file, when X
starts, it claims the DefaultScreen section did
not specify a device or monitor. As a result, it
picks, instead of my "BenQ Monitor", some default
configuration that only supports 640x4

Just for the record, this bug would not bother me if bug #362850, which offers

Nope. It doesn't work for me yet. I'll just bypass it in my .xinitrc.

Since all xkb data moved from /etc to /usr, upgrades
feel free to overwrite changes made to layouts. I want
my custom layout (at least while #530820 is being

True, but that variant also makes numerous other changes, such as removing the
uppercase latin letters from shifted letters.

Until recently, broken keyboard configuration were
more-or-less gracefully degraded to some workable
state. This is no longer the case (not exactly sure
since when).
The way I encounter broken configs is by having my
own keyboard variant.

Hello,
I was able to find an easy workaround for this problem:

the keyboard and mouse) is installed. If your system is not brand-new, they
are probably installed anyway
