Attaching a patch which fixed the issue shortly after it was introduced.
It does not seem applied upstream so either there is a different fix or
this is still broken.
My X server crashes way earlier so can't tell.

- movable mouse cursor, no screen updates otherwise
- no keyboard input - unable to change numlock led state
- the screen goes dark eventually, probably due to DPMS

In my .xsessionrc I set up the screen layout with xrandr.
Because different drivers name the outputs differently I have the
commands repeated with different output names.
All works fine except for --primary.

I can no longer reproduce the lockup with the -3 round radeon/mesa
packages and the 1.6.2.901 X server.
