I stumbled across this bug while browsing the BTS. I'm currently
running 2.4.21-pre3-ac5 (was probably running -pre2 when this happened),
and using:
ii xserver-s3 3.3.6-44 X server for S3 chipset-based graphics cards
I hit that bug accidentally too. So it reproduced for me without eve

It would be really really nice if dpkg-reconfigure would let you input
something for the mouse "Resolution" parameter. By default it omits
that parameter in the generated XF86Config, which leave the mouse speed
at whatever default that wind
