Without that setting I get a blank screen with a mouse pointer. No GUI. A
similar thing happened when I was on Xubuntu and upgraded to 14.04. I used this
that setting as a work around.

I am sorry I mean you get the login screen. Then you enter your username and
password. Then it just stays on the splash screen and does not load the
desktop. I can take some pictures tomorrow if you want.
