i was following the xorg package for a while if it enters tesing. I don't

need stability, I won't "play" with DRI for a while.

Yes, glxinfo is now reporting that direct rendering is enabled. The messages
(freeing invalid ..) are still there though.
To sum up:
* the option make the screen readable for me (removes this sync problems)
* installing the firmware allows DRI to be enabled
