I'm not sure X should be blamed for this, it might be the Gnome desktop
(e.g. metacity).
Here is the problem, since I did the update this morning, I cannot
navigate properly in my Workspaces

Close this bug report, I did try an upgrade to the experimental branch
of the X packages and I just restarted my X server today...

After upgrade from 2:1.4.2-7 to 2:1.4.2-9
xrandr --output TMDS-1 --rotate right
produces garbled screen.
Installing the older version of -core from apt cache resolved the problem
for me.

It looks like the log I sent was from a X server as restarted by xdm
after the original X server crashed.
I get similar error when I do not configure any framebuffer and thus get
no console (I'm booting from efi) and try to start X.
Hopefully I will be able to collect the crashed serv
