I have this problem also. Also the workaround works (but slows things
down somewhat). This particularly effects terminal windows and dialogs
(or maybe I just notice it in those more because they open and close
more, and in the case of dialogs, are unsizable and thus unrecoverable).

I see only "ati" in the list of available drivers but the "radeon"
driver is missing. Unfortunately this is the one I need.
