problems with debian/rules checksource in 4.2.1-15

I just apt-get source xterm, which pulled in 4.2.1-15. After a look at the documents, I tried debian/rules checksource But this ran into trouble at Applying patch debian/patches/001a_damn_cpp_3.3_to_hell.diff...done. Applying patch debian/patches/001b_m68k_haslinuxinput_too.diff...dry run failed.
