Indeed, this problem is much more likely related to the keymap than to
the video driver or hardware.

The same problem (can't switch to another virtual console) happens here too,
with the vesa driver on a trident cyperblade xp (the xfree 4.2
trident-driver was much slower than vesa, so I use vesa - no
kernel-frame
