I've been plagued by hard system lock-ups ever since I switched to the
xorg nv driver from the binary nvidia driver. This is a Compaq Presario
V6000 laptop (twin-core amd64 CPU) with NVidia motherboard, BTW.

m seeing this with any machines these days. Close away!

Just as with my Radeon system, now that 4.3 hit testing I can see that
the same problem occurs on the box with the 3D Rage Pro, using the ati
driver -- that is, console switching is totally disabled, as is
CTRL-AL

VT switching simply doesn't work (does nothing). This bug is present at
least back to -pre1v4, perhaps -pre1v3. It does not occur using the
vesa driver in 4.3 or 4.2.
