Whith drm.debug=1 parameter on kernel command line will see this bug.
On different clients or diferent instances of vlc all is ok , but when try to
start
Visualisations from panel vlc entire system is broken and this issue broken

After updating xserver-xorg-core from 1.7.6-1 to 1.7.6-2 and xserver-common
from 1.7.6-1 to 1.7.6-2 few days ago, scrolling using trackpoint and
middlebutton stoped working. Downgrading packages to previous versions, fixed
problem.
Spake too soon.
2.7.99.902-1 also has the bug. It just didn't fail for several hours
last night but now it does after a few minutes sometimes a half hour.
Could it be triggering a hardware malfunction? Seem a little random.

I have the same problem with an 845.
Version 2.7.99.902-1 seems to work. This might be an option which doesn't force
everyone
tartx does work and the xorg Xserver starts normally.
