The log file appended below resulted from startx after I made a few changes to XF86Config-4 in order to get past what seemed to be a mouse problem, and installed a more recent kernel (not an easy task). I believe that both the X server and the kernel are the most recent available through apt. Ext

The log file appended below resulted from startx after I made a few changes to XF86Config-4 in order to get past what seemed to be a mouse problem, and installed a more recent kernel (not an easy task). I believe that both the X server and the kernel are the most recent available through apt. Ext
