After jumping from kernel 2.2.19 to 2.4.4, I noticed a
strange behaviour related to X. Everytime when X is running,
any attempts to change to a text console results in my laptop
freezing/crashing. If I cleanly exit out of X
(say /etc/init.d/xdm st
