* In the CompizConfig Settings Manager, I can grab a key sequence that

I testify the same behavior on an Acer Aspire 7730GZ (64 bit dual core,
GeForce 9300M GS)
Swinching back to a vesa driver "solves" the problem.
Switching to a 2-6-30 kernel (from sid) does not solve the problem.
The keyboard is still responding as I can reboot with the Ctrl-Alt-Suppr keys
