I have the same behavior on my dell latitude d410. In my case, the X
screen seems to go blank for a fraction of a section and then turns to
garbage (looks like wrong video mode). Mouse is irresponsible, as are
crtl+alt+backspace and ctrl+alt+Fn.
X log goes attached, as well as the output of ls

I too suffered from this bug (amazingly annoying).
An easy workaround without having to alter config files and restart
xorg, is to run xset r at a shell prompt. Thanks to amphi on IRC for
