I also ran into this problem with a FireGL X1 (R300-based) on a Debian
unstable machine. I would like to track down the changeset that
introduced this problem using git-bisect, however, I would like some
guidance on the best method to go about doing this. So far this is what

'reopen' is deprecated when a bug has been closed with a version;
use 'found' or 'submitter' as appropriate instead.

It needs docbookx.xml which is in docbook.xml. In other

I upgraded my AMD64 etch system yesterday (2006 Dec 13) and the freezes
seem to have stopped. If this situation persists for a week I'll
consider the bug I originally posted fixed and report it so.
I can't say whether the other problems some people have written in about
are fixed, though. P

Hi all,
This bug still exists in the latest version of Xorg. Setting depth to 8
alleviates this, but nothing higher will work.

You could try unsetting the compiz gconf settings by running something like
this:

Bug#402545: compiz: Returning from another virtual terminal makes a black screen
Severity set to `important' from `grave'
Hello,
I found the source of the problem: savage drm in the kernel.
A fast update to the current git HEAD solved the problem.
Attention: Kernel headers must be installed.
git clone git://anongit.freedesktop.org/git/mesa/drm
cd drm/linux-core/
make DRM_MODULES="savage"
mv /lib/modules/2.6.18-
