We obviously have extreme problems with master's load. My archive
scripts which used to take about 1.5 or 2 hours to run a few months
ago now take 10 hours or more. I think the mailing lists are the main
culprits here. The addition of the real time black hole stuff was the
proverbial straw. Hop

That's the Contents file getting rebuilt. It's a huge job, bu
I've fixed two problems: You can now search multiple dates, and the
engine will search all the relevant indexes. Also the script filters
out the header html so there aren't false matches on next and previous
emails when the hit is in the Subject.
I don't subscribe to this list, so please CC on co

They are more than backups. They handle all the day-to-day work.

Fixing easy bugs and
Thanks to the debian weekly news articles, I noticed that Darren is
looking into new list archiving software. Serendipitously, I was
playing around with mhonarc this morning. I fixed the bug with
Wichert's messages, and I made it generate split indices.
I think I can just regenerate new indices

It wouldn't.

I'm testing some improvements to the list archiver. If you want see
an example, go to http://www.debian.org/~maor/debian-devel-9901/
If you have any suggestions, I'd like to hear them.

Yes, I'd like to use something besides glimpse.

Could there be some automatic solution? For example contact

Unfortunately I have to regenerate the list archives to install the
new .rc files that I showed earlier. The URLs for individual messages
won't change though. I have only regenerated this month so far, and I
will *slowly* work my back - perhaps one month every other day.
Guy
Hmm. Regenerating all of Feb 99 is a 76 meg fetch. Is that
acceptible to be at once?

They use mhonarc also. What in particular to like about their
configuration?
Guy
It now has links to the gzipped mbox files.

This looks promising. Thanks for the pointer.

It's better to have something where you can easily modify the data
coming in and out of it. So something designed as a freetext search
rather than a web server is more appropriate for mailing list
searches.

to preprocess and postprocess the data files.

Yes, it's possible to compile cvs as a native Windows program, or with

I'd like to give away maintainership of the web list archiving and
searching. I originally wrote the scripts but don't have time to
maintain or enhance them.
Apart from some very minor maintainance, the major project is building
a good free search engine for mhonarc-based lists, something with as
