I'm still interested in maintaining s3cmd - I assume there is no longer
any interest from the parties previously involved, given that this has
been gathering dust for the past year? If not I'll take a crack at this
shortly.

I believe you are actually looking for 'chronic', which is already
provided by package 'morutils' at /usr/bin/chronic.
