so, before i try disabling the firewall etc... to see if it has any
results and risk losing the working LAN part of the story i wonder if

you can come up with a standard
desktop/server combination and a network of small retail stores that are
willing to join once they know that they are backed up by reliable local
support.
The main problem will be that you will need a organized network of
admins that do things the same standard

replaced by root's login environment. How can I change this so my user environment

edit this file to change your hostname.
You might also want to add an entry in /etc/hosts fo
server side.

of news to d/l. THis was NetManage NNS server for NT. I moved on to a
regular innd and it worked fine. But honestly I prefer this modified Tiny News
