because, while the grub binary is on the uefi part of your main disk
along with the windows bootloader and other potential stuff, the grub
configuration is on your external drive which is not

I got a new computer (no OS inside) and would like to install a fresh Debian
Lenny 5.0.2 from an usb dongle.
After following a How To (
http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/i386/ch04s03.html.en ) given in a
recent post on this list, I managed to create a bootable usb device
including a CD
y noticed a similar problem?

After upgrading to buster, the VPN does not start anymore.
I'm using Debian buster on my host OS and Debian buster on the guest OS.

not too worried about disabling apparmor. I ended up just giving as
loose of a configuration I could and it did the trick.
