I am new to Linux (especially Debian),
please help me out.
1. Does anyone can tell me how to extract
*.deb files? And where can I find Debian's special commands?
2. I have just installed Debian 2.2 r0
(potato), but XF86 did not work (don't have SVGA driver - returned message at
first tim
at
first time). So, I used VGA16 driver during XF86Setup (second time), the setup
program told me successfully installed XF86 but it failed after I press ok to
continue.
Thanks - Stephen

Ok, I will try this but how I can stop it from running xdm. Which file
contains
information to control whether start X via standard way "startx" or via xdm.

Now, I am using 72 char as wrap text, so those who use pine or elm in an
x-terminal should be ok then?!
At the moment, I use MS Windows 2000 to contact you guys. Hopefully I
can get my Debian system work soon and get rid of MS Windows from all my
computers.
Thanks for helping me.

t use keyboard to test some programs which all work
fine.
Therefore, I ran XF86Setup again. After I selected PS/2 mouse,
and
pressed "apply", mouse pointer still stayed where it was. Then I
selected any other mouse (not PS/2 of course), then key "apply".
After I have done this, I selected PS/2 mouse again, then it
worked.
It would not work if I restart x server.
I have tried several times, the results were the same.
