Splash screen was displayed for 15mins. After any of this is loaded system

Difference when starting normally and in single-mode is that in
single-mode everythime is done "Calculating modules dependencies".

Lately, I'm having problem with CD/DVD in Gnome.
I have two drives: DVDRW on /dev/hdc and DVD-ROM on /dev/hdd. When I
insert media in either drive nothing happens. When I insert USB disk it

I've been using Debian for almost ten years in academic environment. It
has done great job as mail, web, DNS, LDAP and DB server. I used Samba
just for some simple tasks. Most of my clients were MS so we had
additional MS servers for AA (authentication&authorization), file sharing
and DB.

question if that are debian media.
Tried with gnome, synaptic, aptitude with no luck. Since media seemed OK
during installation I didn't check md5 sum. However, I can read from media
and install manually packages via dpkg. Is apt-cdrom broken?
