I'm trying to move all the files in my root partition to a different
disk parition. I had no problems using cp -ar to do this with the /usr
tree, but /dev is giving me problems. I can't seem to copy the devices
in /dev. I get messages like "cp: /dev/sdh3: Operation not supported by
device". MAKEDEV
-r was a typo. I meant -R for recursive. It still won't copy the devices in
/dev.

Ok, thanks to you guys I got it working. If you're interested, here's what
happened (I
think). The first time I tried to copy all of the root partition using -axR.
This was
working until it got to one of the bttv (brooktree tv card) dev files. I think

I installed Netscape while running X at 32 bpp. Now, when I change to 24
bpp by altering /etc/X11/xdm/Xservers and restarting xdm, Netscape has
problems. Opening pages with Java in them makes Netscape crash with a
bus error. Also, the icons become monochromatic (sometimes black,
sometimes red, etc.
When using xdm, put a line in /etc/X11/xdm/Xservers like my last line:

I've installed debian's ghostscript package and it works by typing the
appropriate commands on the command line but I haven't been able to
interface it with lpr so I can't print directly from Netscape, star
office, etc. I have to create a ps file in netscape and then print it.
StarOffice doesn't s
