I tried that and it doesn't make any difference. ssh, ftp and http all work,
but not telnet (even 'telnet localhost' disconnects).
As a last resort, I purged and re-installed telnetd. Now it works.
Strange...

How about 'man -t blabla |lpr
with 'make config', 'make menuconfig' or make xconfig'.
After that use make-kpkg to compile your kernel and create a debian
package which you then need to install with dpkg.
See usr/doc/kernel-package/README.gz for details.

I don't know what modconfig is, but if you select the ljet4 filter in

The binary does not include 128-bit encryption, however, but if you
have a copy of that from your download, you can copy it over the

The program to execute at startup is /usr/lib/oss/soundon
You could create a script in /etc/init.d/local and run 'update-rc.d

In potato's netbase, the network script has been replaced by

in /etc/rc*.d are retained, however. While this still works, is it

I suggest that you check a few things:
1. What does 'ls -al /etc/X11/X' say?
2. Is xserver-xfree86 installed? (check 'dpkg -l xserver-xfree86') If
not, install it with either dpkg or apt-get (it appears that sometimes
this doesn't get installed in an upgrade).

Not being conversant in perl, can someone tell me what to do about the
following error I received after the latest woody updates:
Setting up libpaperg (1.0.5) ...
Can't locate Debconf/Client/ConfModule.pm in @INC (@INC contains:
/usr/local/lib/perl/5.6.0 /usr/local/share/perl/5.6.0 /usr/lib/perl5

only, unfortunately) but it
should work with magicfilter or apsfilter as well.
The Lexmark driver can be converted to .deb with alien (it puts some
files in /usr/local, which is probably not a good idea, but shouldn't
really hurt). Since I haven't yet received my printer, I haven't been

h is less
free than GPL. You can find 6.01 in woody under the name gs-aladdin.
At the time of a new release, the previous version is re-released under
the GNU license. Version 5.50 is the latest GNU version, but that has
not yet been packaged for Debian.

I have noticed in the past few days that if I switch from the X display
to a VC and back again that as soon as I move my mouse the cursor jumps
to the upper right corner of the display and stays there. This is on a
system running woody. Has anyone else noticed this?
