Kernel 2.6 reboot turns off the hard drives

Hello, just upgraded to the 2.6 kernel (2.6.6) and when I reboot, the hard drives are turned off. They are then powered on during the boot sequence. I'm using APM loaded as a module. I've been running 2.4.25 before without ever experiencing this problem. I'll be grateful for any help. Thanks in
