file name character set compatibility

There are incompatibilies between characters permitted in Windoze file names, both English and localized versions (I am not addressing Unicode or Asian issues here!) and those permitted in Debian. Doing cp or rsync will reject files with these characters, even if the copy is between FAT32 partit

EXT3 and data=journal

How can I use data=journal mode in Sarge, stock kernel 2.4.26-1-i386? If I include data=journal in /etc/fstab, I'm told that I can't change the journal mode during a remount. Using tune2fs to set journal=data doesn't seem to help. Thanks in advance for assistance! -- Mason Loring Bliss [EMA

Greetings If I move installed files from their original apt-get install target locations, is there a a simple way to redirect the package managers to cope with these path changes for future updates/upgrades of a particular package ? For example, I've installed the python2.3

Hi! Trying to generate the Sarge CD#1 with jigdo-lite I get 91 files that are missing. I use http://cdimage.debian.org/pub/cdimage-testing/cd/jigdo-area/i386[...] for the jigdo files and templates. When I take a random check on what is missing, I get. e.g. that he cannot find ntp-server_4.2.0a-
