Are there many interface changes brewing up in the

I'd call the changes between 2.0 and
Is there a way to transfer files between a Slink & Win95 machine using a
serial null-modem cable?
I don't want to tie up two phone lines with modems. Something similar
to the (msft) "Interlnk" perhaps. Tnx.

I feed off a solaris NIS server for users/groups, except root. There's
a GID=100 conflict, where NIS server says it's 'devel' and
(linux):/etc/group says it's 'users'. Can I safely groupdel users?
I'm running current potato x86 debian.
TIA!

Hi,
I just got
apt 0.3.11 for i386 compiled on Aug 12 1999 00:53:49
for slink, and tried to use the cool new "build from source" capability.
The relevant line in /etc/apt/sources.list is
deb-src http://www.debian.org/debian unstable main
But I just get

Hi everyone!
I just started to try and get efax to work. My modem is a 3Com
Megahertz 56k Cellular modem (pcmcia) on /dev/ttyS2.
When I try to run a test fax, efax gives me the following error

debs,
my modem irq is assumed to be irq=4; however, the real irq is irq=9.
what's the full command line to make the change? (i typed "setserial
/dev/ttyS2"; the response was, "/dev/ttyS2, uart: unknown, port: 0x03e8,
irq: 4".)

Hi,
Do you know if there is .deb of pppd 2.3.x for slink? If yes,

Thanks,

And for Debian, look into the kernel-package package. You don't have to

This opens a personal-security hole, in that anyone who can telnet/ssh
into your machine can hear what the mic is picking up, and can play
I posted a similar message yesterday and am posting
again because I can't use "apt-get install" to install
packages over the internet at all. Very serious
problem.
Here is an example of what is happening (after
apt-get update has completed successfully) :

Now I've done it. I deleted some files from /var/state/apt/lists/

You should be able to, yes. I have not been able to get any version of
pppd to work with 2.2 kernels, but others have.
