Assuming root (/) is a single partition, and /mnt another, you can do:
tar clf - / | ( cd /mnt ; tar xpvf - )
Explanation:
c : create tar file

Hi,
I am trying to configure PPP... and after connection is established it
hangs up in a short while. (I use MCI as internet provider )
The tail of messages file is:

Serial Connection established
Using interface ppp0

This has been acknowledged by others as a bug (but I'm not sure if it's
been officially reported).

Hey
I just installed Debian 1.3 ([stable contrib non-free]). And to me, it looks
like the adduser scripts isn't working properly.. in fact.. it doesn't act
like 'group homes', though this is specified in adduser.conf.
Anyone familiar with this problem/bug?

This is not really related to debian but I was wondering if any knew
how to disable the mail program in netscape4.
I NEVER want to use this other than maybe mailing stuff via
mailto links and was less than impressed when it decided to kill off
may mailbox with about 1500 messages sti

Hello !
I'm a happy Debian User and I live with unstable. I like Debian, because I
can do everything very easy (killer apps for mail, web and so on).
But I cannot find a good way to build web pages. How do you build web sites
with Debian? Via SGML (with Emacs) or with simple vi? I need something

I'm thinking of setting up a new Linux system with the Debian
distribution, and was wondering if it includes anything for

My friend asked this on comp.os.linux.hardware, but he got no useful

Is there a motherboard with more than 8 SIMM slots? Alternatively, is

Is there a way to "safely" do a e2fsck scan on your active and boot
partitions? I dont want to fix any problems, I just want to see if there
are any problems without booting a different partition/resq disk.
there is the -n option but I dont know if that is _safe_
Thanks!
