I solved the problem by adjusting /etc/timezone and /etc/localtime to
use PST8PDT instead of SystemV/PST8PDT.

When I try to download xbase_3.2-1.1.deb and use dpkg -i to install
it I get crc error uncompressing data from gzip error 1 or something

I found the pgp packages on one of the debian-non-us sites.
The 2 pgp packages (pgp-i & pgp-us) have exactly the same
package information, but the sizes and names are different.

What I do is sync the clock from one of our servers using netdate and then
use clock to set the BIOS clock so tha

Everytime after I reboot, attempts to print via lprng's lpr will fail
with the following message:

1. Why does dselect seem to override holds on some pkgs? I hilighted the All
pkgs line and hit hold (=) so I could selectively make changes yet there were

system as compared to a previous Slackware, eg
a simple program to print "hello world" is 80k.

an answer back. I manage to install bind anyway basically ignoring this
error (however, dselect still says that bind is not properly installed).
I suspect something's wrong with bash 2.0-2 though. Try some other bash.

box to recognise my kingston ethernet card (which emulates a ne2000
card) When I installed the base system I had to choose a DEC-2*** I

I just tried to patch up to 2.0.30 and I got an error along the lines of
hunk 1 of 1 failed. Rejected 3c59x.c...
I restored 'pure' kernel 2.0.27 source off of the Debian 1.2.6 CD I have and
tried itup to 2.0.29 no complaints, but it gets to 2.0.30 and I get that

The information you are looking for should be in the Host
Requirements RFC -I think this is also a debian package in doc.
For 10Mbits/sec Ethernet cable, this was the policy for a host few years
ago and propably it is still in effect:
