Hi all,
Unfortunately I can't trace exactly how I got myself in this situation,
but right now, xdm does not autostart for me.
Largely, what I did: Install bullseye without GUI but install xdm later
manually. I also upgraded to bookworm (for other reasons). It might
well be that the iss

That depends on whenever you'll execute this script from an X client or

Well, there are several ways to do this, but I will limit myself to
one of them. I assume you start with these headers, which are the
current ones in unstable:
### BEGIN INIT INFO

What do I need to put into
/etc/init.d/rc.local's
INIT INFO section?
Can I put it there or must I put it into /etc/init.d/xdm's?
I read insserv(8) but it is mishmosh to me.

the problem is: there is no /etc/init.d/xdm file
These are the contents of /etc/init.d/
orion:/etc/init.d# ls
acpid ifupdown mtab.shskeleton
alsa ifupdown-clean networking ssh
alsa-utils keymap.sh nfs

files in /etc/rcN.d are actually links to init scripts in /etc/init.d
What you should do is
ln -s /etc/init.d/xdm /etc/rcN.d/S99xdm
bye
