thats the one, for somereason the upgrade deleted all of my devices. I am
manually creating them right now. The upgrade even killed my tty* and i
had to reboot from rescue create those devices, but i still can't log in,
and i am pretty sure it has to do with the rest of the devices not there.

IIRC slink split telnet out of netstd into its own package. You need to
install telnet and telnetd.

the program but after a cd install the xzoom program is found here,
/usr/X11R6/bin/xzoom

Apache no longer logs hits since I upgraded to slink.
I have not changed /etc/apache/httpd.conf and it contains the lines:
LoadModule config_log_module /usr/lib/apache/1.3/mod_log_config.so
ErrorLog /var/log/apache/error.log
TransferLog /var/log/apache/access.log
Files are there, but empty:

I have a machine that I'm trying to upgrade from Hamm to Slink, but
I have a problem with mc (4.1.35-1) that is broken and I cant upgrade the
whole distribution. I'm getting with nervous because mc :)
I know that there is a new mc (4.5.1-1), but when I try t
I want to upgrade my libc from 2.0.7t-1 to libc6_2.0.7v-1.deb too.
Can I simply install the appropriate packages, even if during the process
parts of the system will be broken ? Is there a possibility that my system
will completely be useless so that I will have to reinstall hamm from scratch ?

Yes! libc6 requires libc6-dev of the same level. I have had this problem
in the past.
just run your apt-get -f install and it will pull whatever files are required
to solve the problem. (which means upgrading libc6-dev)

I believe the safest method of upgrading to slink is to use
'apt-get dist-upgrade'. I upgraded a system last week with this method
and it was almost uneventful.

No, the correct syntax is without the "/", however I don't believe
non-us.debian.org supports http so use:
deb ftp://non-us.debian.org/debian-non-US stable non-US

That looks suspiciously like a kernel relase number, not a Debian
release number. slink uses kernels from the 2.0.x series.

Regarding the upgrade to slink, I used apt-get dist-upgrade and
got a whole bunch of new stuff (took me about 3 days at 28.8 :-). All
seemed to go well, (except I had to grab xdm manually) but the version
number that comes up at boot still says 2.0.34 (which I think is hamm).

Both hamm and slink are libc6-based so the upgrade should be quite
