I 'va got the same problem with the aic7xxx scsi driver and the 2.6.5
kernel which did appear with the older 2.4 kernel version.
I finally resolved this problem by performing two steps:
1/ unactivate the acpi with the following line in /etc/grub.conf
title Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS (2.6.5SM
In process of installing a 2.6.5 kernel on one of the computers in the
house I have run into a number of problems:
Debian stock kernel-image-2.6.5-i386 fails to boot. The boot process
hangs on mounting the root filesystem. The last part of the boot post
is:
hdb: max request size: 128KiB
hdb: 4002
