If you don't want fast 3d the nv module in X 4.0 will suit you fine
I would suggest that you try the nvidia drivers though...from
www.nvidia.com or apt-get nvidia-kernel-src nvidia-glx-src from unstable
Once compiled and installed I get 3d perfromance on par with windows

I've used a 32Mb nVidia TNT2 on
I have an nvidia GeForce 2 and I just installed these linux drivers,

Hi
Ijust bought a 32MB nVidia TNT 2 card, and I run Woody with a
fairly late 2.4 kernel. Am I going to have trouble? Xfree claims to
support this card in X 4.0
Am I in for it, as Mother used to say?
Am I smoking somethin'? Or should I be?

I'm currently using the 2.4.15pre4 source from kernel.org, but this also
worked with 2.4.14 (also from kernel.org). All I did to get my nvidia
kernel module to work was:
apt-get install nvidia-kernel-src
cd /usr/src/linux
make-kpkg modules_image
This created a /usr/src/nvidia-kernel-_1.0.1541 deb
Uhmm... I have NVIDIA drivers working on my 2.4.14 no problems.
I am running previous version of drivers though.

Here's my info:
Debian (sid)
2.4.14 -- from .deb
Xfree86 4.1.0
Nvidia TNT
gcc 3.0.2
I can get the module to compile... but I get unresolved symbols if I use

Well, tried twinview, but disabled it again after it crashed with some
applications. I had it set to double the desktop (kind-a-nice

It works well with my 2.4.14. Got it from the FTP of kernel.org and did
just a patch for my USB graphic table (Aiptek 8000U), but i think it has
nothung to do with the nVidia drivers.

I've compiled the drivers many times before but it just doesn't want to
work with this kernel ... no matter what I do I get unresolved
symbols... i've tried using the kernel headers in the kernel-source
package an
