Hello,
The troubles with debian woody, sweex ethernet cards and a motorola
modem are solved. Motorola cable modems don't work under debian. I tried
a good "old" com 21 cable modem with static ip addresses and it works
fine.
So don't use Motorola modems with Debian

Hi, I installed Debian on a Dell GL+ 5100, and I installed the module for the
3c509 (3Com 509-based NIC card), and got "installation succeeded." ifconfig
can find it as eth0 just fine, and I can ping my IP address and it works
fine. But when I try to ping any OTHER devices on the network it fail

Greetings:
I recently made a jump from caldera to debian and am in general very happy.
I am, tho, getting hung up on a few points...

Yesterday I rebooted my machine, and now I am unable to initiate any network
connections. I can ping the box from the outside, and get web pages served
by apache, but I can't do anything from that box. (ssh doesn't work,
presumably because it tries to do a name lookup on the remote ip). dhcp
I have two machines, both running 2.2.6, slink, just the basics.
Anyways, both machines have 3c905's, one boots up as a vortex, the other
as a cyclone. The cyclone is SLOW in linux, giving me like 17k/sec to
sites that the other gives me 800k/sec to. both give me about 800k/sec
in windows, so I'm
