need help setting epoch for a fake package

Can anyone tell me how I can set the epoch for a fake package? I need to make a fake qt package but I cannot seem to find this info in the "equivs" package docs. I have included the epoch (preceeding the version number) but this does not work. thanks -- Andrew - GnuP
