One way to get rid of it is, after you log in, type: reset at the command prompt. That resets your TTY parameters to the default, and gets rid of the penguin. If you put "vga=normal" in /etc/lilo.conf, you will also need to run the "lilo" command to write a new boot sector. But I suggest lea

Humble apologies for newbie ignorance. With that said... On bootup, I simply want to boot into a text console. I've turned off gdm, and that gets rid of the graphical login. Unfortunately, it seems that I boot into a VESA framebuffer. At the console there is a penguin on the top left corner, and m
