As an update on this
I installed the joystick package and when running jstest it registers
all events, as they happen with the joystick. All buttons work. jstest
reports all joystick movement correctly. It's just that no games are
recognizing it.

I have a Gravis Blackhawk that isn't being recognized by any games. It
is, however, recognized at boot as recorded by dmesg.
The following modules are loaded at boot: joydev, grip, emu10k-gp,
gameport, and ns558. I'm running a Soundblaster Live! sound card.
There is a /dev/input/js0.
So,
inder/joydev/gameport in various order without success.
Finally tracked down the problem to with permissions on the js device nodes.
They are created with 600 permissions but all the other devices in
/dev/input have 660. So to get the joystick working, as root (sudo)
cd /dev/input/
MAKEDEV js
Final problem for today at least. I cannot get my sidewinder precision pro
to work with Linux. I have a Asus A8N-SLI NF4 motherboard and I am using
the latest Nvidia drivers (0301 I think) but no device nodes are created.
I've tried creating the device nodes manually and modprobe

I found a strange thing in kernel 2.6.0-test4. The joystick devices that
should be /dev/input/js* are directly in /dev (so I have /dev/js*). I have
enabled the joystick interface (INPUT_JOYDEV) which says in the help it would
create the devices in /dev/input. And yes, I am using devfs. Right

I have got Linux Debian 2.1 (slink) on a Pentium with a Creative Labs Sound
Blaster 16.
I compiled by myself the kernel 2.2.13 and I enabled the joystick support
and I installed

All applications don't recognize my Thrust game pad attached to the SB16's
When I run 'jscal 0' or 'jscal 1', I obtain an error message like this :

First you need kernel support for the device - the hardware HOWTO has
