ipportfw problem

i have set up ipmasq on my debian machine and it works fine. i am using kernel 2.0.36 and included the patch to enable ipportfw. i can set ipportfw rules and redirect ports into my internal network but i don't get any response back from the internal machines. ipportfw is kind of workin

Whenever I type an ipportfw command, I always get an error back: ipfwadm: setsockopt failed: Protocol not available. What does this mean? And how do I resolve this? I have the current kernal, installed IPchains successfully, but need to get this piece of the puzzle going :) Thanks in advance
