to narrow down by upping the logging in CUPS. I have both an hp 1200
and an epson 300 on the machine, and both die most of the time that I

Yes, I have the newewst libpaperg installed: Aside from the error I get
when opening gziped ps/eps/pdf files, which I presume is a separate
problem, all the errors are the same A4: Unknown papersize thing.

You definately need to upgrade you gs to gs-aladdin-4.03.

I have used dselect to install ghostview 1.5-13, gs 4.01-2, and
gsfonts 4.01-3 on a 1.2 installation which has been partially upgraded (via
dselect) to 1.3. When I run ghostscript I get this:
