I too am having i810 m/b with samsung monitor. Initially it was very very
tough to get X up. I shall tell you what I did.
First, install all packages for X, mostly done during installation itself.
Now run xf86config, and select VGA-16. Then startx, see if X comes up,

i dont know the version of Xfree... how can i learn??
but i tried the command you wrote and it said bash : xfree86 : command not
found
did i make smth wrong?

at command prompt:
dpkg -p xfree86-common | grep 'Version:'
This uses dpkg to show the entry for xfree86-common (base package of
xfree86) then pipes output through grep to only display the version
