Offlist, Keith Edmunds suggested that I try different media. I tried another disc, and it worked fine. Trying different media, it looks like only audio CDs (Groove Armada and Dirty Vegas albums, to be exact) cause the error messages. I was able to mount a Knoppix CD no problem. I must go to
