The last couple times I've tried to do an apt-get dist-upgrade, dpkg-preconfig failed. A quick search of package contents on http://www.debian.org/distrib/packages (that is very convienient, I appreicate it a lot) shows that the program dpkg-preconfig is part of the package debconf. I go to /var
