OK I tried making my /etc/ppp/ip-up.d/fetchmail-up script as follows:
#!/bin/sh
su - -c '/usr/bin/fetchmail --fetchmailrc /etc/ppp/.fetchmailrc --idfile
/etc/ppp/.fetchids' mail
Here is the error I get when trying to run this script as user root:
# ./fetchmail-up
fetchmail: couldn't time-check the
