I have found on the alsa website the solution to this problem. Editing
/etc/modprobe.d/sound the line options snd-emu10k1 index=0 to options
snd-emu10k1 index=-15 did the trick.

You shouldn't need to change the permissions for /dev/dsp0 or any of the
audio devices. Merely add yourself to the "audio" group (as root):
