Hi Marco,
Just put 'exec gnome-session' in your .xsession or .xinitrc file.
Then use the Gnome setup utility to make Sawfish the default WM.

If you don't want to type it evertime you start X, you could also put
'gnome-session' at the end of your .xsession file.
