If it is a PS/2 mouse you should not have that /dev/input/mouse
section. For PS/2 you should be fine with just /dev/psaux.
Use dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86 to reconfigure X again and just
choose PS/2 when selecting mouse.

I've got a 4-5 year old Compaq Presario desktop (not laptop) with a PS/2
wheel mouse. Without gpm, and with X set up to see an imps/2 mouse on
/dev/psaux, the mouse in X is erratic. So I tried playing with it in

Unfortunatelly GPM cannot repeat IMPS/2 protocol, so
I think if you run gpm, in X the mouse should be configured with device
"/dev/gpmdata" and protocol "MouseSystems". At least it works on my system, but
I have a different mouse. You can try anyway...

I guess you have gpm already running. There are sometimes problems
with gpm and
ning gpm, then the device you want is probably /dev/gpmdata,
otherwise it's probably /dev/ttyS0 as you note.

Turns out that AccelerratedX 5 doesn't mind slink's gpm, but won't work with
potato's. So I just removed gpm from startup, and now everythings fine.

Yes - but /dev/mouse needs to point to wherever your mouse really is -
probably a serial port (try /dev/ttys0 or /dev/ttys1).
