You don't have to use cfdisk, but you _do_ have to wipe out the filesystem. Various people have reported some success with installing Debian _over_ Slackware, but if you do that there will be files left behind from the old system that will never be cleaned up, etc. We don't support upgrading on top

I am thinking about installing debian over slackware, but I don't want to repartion the drive. The drive was partitioned with the program used by slackware. I take it that one can skip the `initialization' step and simply use the existing partitions or is it advised that I repartition using cfdis
