I had a rogue civserver process that managed to append a lot of data to the ~/.gnome-errors file. In fact, the file rapidly grew to over 200Mb. Now I killed the process and deleted the file, but the amount of space used reported by df stayed the same. A du of / reported ~200Mb less, as I expected.
